Bertolini: Rational points on elliptic curves and deformation of Galois representations.
The description of the group of rational points of an elliptic curve is one of the most elusive questions in number theory. Rational points can be embedded naturally in the Galois cohomology groups of the elliptic curve. These cohomology groups admit several deformations, and modular constructions of classes therein provide an avenue to understand the arithmetic of the elliptic curve. The purpose of this talk is to motivate and describe some recent results in this direction.
Lazić: On two conjectures in birational geometry
I will discuss recent progress on two conjectures in birational geometry: the nonvanishing conjecture and a conjecture of Mumford. This is joint work with Thomas Peternell.
