We introduce the notion of a tight cylinder over an ane variety and show the eect of tightness on the automorphism group. We present various criteria of tightness, give examples of tight cylinders (conguration spaces, discriminant varieties), and describe their automorphism groups. The talk is based on a joint work with Vladimir Lin (Technion, Haifa).
