Abstract:
Conjectures of Zilber and Pink on unlikely intersections aim at generalizing many classical results from diophantine geometry such as Mordell's Conjecture, i.e. Faltings' Theorem. They also cover the (open) André-Oort Conjecture. I will give a general introduction to these conjectures and then present recent joint work in progress with Jonathan Pila.
