Compact moduli for certain Kodaira fibrations

We describe explicitly the possible degenerations of a class of double Kodaira fibrations in the moduli space of stable surfaces. Under some condition we prove that standard Kodaira fibrations are unobstructed; all deformations arise from deformations of curves with automorphisms as previously described in joint work with Catanese.
